Results from the ERP user satisfaction survey

The choice of ERP software has become simpler and more complex at the same time. Simpler, because the systems have reached a level of maturity over the last few years which makes it difficult to clearly choose a “wrong” system. More complex, as the number of potentially suitable systems has not decreased. Altogether, the user marks its software suppliers with a “B” - there are no large outliers in neither the one nor the other way.

Basically, "Satisfaction" is a subjective value which is decided from the perspective of the respondent. On the other hand, it is precisely this "satisfaction" which makes a successful ERP installation. In this sense, the results are presented below, while important for decision makers and developers, but they are not the measure of all things.

The practical use of the satisfaction studies – the first has been published 2003 - in a variety of projects has shown that the results of the study can be used as a barometer. A barometer allows no final and binding weather forecast, but gives hints on how the weather might develop. The same applies to the various aspects of satisfaction: You give the user an indication in which areas problems could occur, and thus allows a better planning. As an exclusive selection tool the "satisfaction barometer" is not suitable.

The more complex the installation are the less satisfied are the user companies. This result is true since 2003 and this is the reason why smaller ERP vendors usually get the better grades than e.g. SAP. Because SAP customer tend to have more complex needs therefore the implementation and maintenance of these installations is more complex and there are more possibilities for failures. On the other hand there is a reason why large organizations with a global company structure choose mainly SAP: Because other vendors have difficulties to fulfill the customer needs and e.g. provide the legal versions needed.

Im Rahmen der ERP Future 2011 präsentieren führende ERP-Anbieter, wie sie die Zukunft der ERP-Landschaft sehen und in welche Richtungen die Weiterentwicklungen ihrer ERP-Systeme gehen. KMUs stellen die ERP-Anbieter vor große Herausforderungen. Einerseits besitzen diese eine hohe Individualität, Flexibilität und Marktorientierung andererseits sind die IT Budgets meist sehr gering. Gerade im deutschsprachigen Raum ist der Einsatz von Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)-Systemen weit verbreitet, wobei die fortschreitende Globalisierung die lokalen Anforderungen internationalisiert. Zusätzlich bietet der schnelle technische Wandel immer mehr Chancen unternehmerisch zu agieren und auf Herausforderungen und Problemfelder zu reagieren. Vice versa stellen gerade diese Chancen auch Risiken dar.

ERP-Systemen kommt neben der adäquaten integrierten Abwicklung der aktiven Arbeitsabläufe immer mehr die Aufgabe als „Befähiger“ zu. Unternehmenssoftware kann gleichermaßen ein Wettbewerbsnachteil oder -vorteil sein. Um Vorteile nutzbar machen zu können, müssen Prozesse und Ressourcen (auch das Personal) durch ERP-System gleichermaßen befähigt werden.

ERP Future 2011 ist der Event, um sich einen Überblick über die Entwicklung der ERP-Systeme in den nächsten 5 Jahren zu schaffen und führende ERP-Anbieter (SAP, proalpha, abas, oxaion, Ramsauer & Stürmer, CMC-Solutions, ACP und Comarch) kennenzulernen.
